The Rain Won’t stop Rootsville, even Hello Magazine are coming!

Yes people, Rootsville Festival will not be stopped by Rain, the event has marquees ready to go, there will be no mud as the area is all classic concrete, some tarmac but mostly paving or wooden decking. You won’t need special footwear, there won’t be mud to worry about and you won’t need to worry about flooding, the Festival site is on higher ground. The Festival is going to be a lot of fun and you are all invited. Rain or no rain, the Rootsville Festival is full steam ahead.

There’s been a lot of preparation going on this end and you’ll see it all on Saturday. But just when you thought the rain and the floods couldn’t make it more complicated for Kent (His house got flooded and he’s been wading around knee deep in water trying to put the finishing touches to the event organisation for the Festival)…..things have now got really weird. Hello Magazine are rumoured to be coming to Rootsville Festival. Yes, thats right, Hello Magazine. Here’s a message just in from our man John Mostyn to you all:

young zulu warriors
This lovely lot are coming:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMoKqFiJvRwThey are from here:
http://www.godsgoldenacre.org.uk/

A real island of hope in a sea of despair.

They are flying in on Friday morning from Kwa Zulu-Natal, Friday night they are performing at the SA embassy in London introduced by some fella called Jude Law. Sounds flash but it’s gonna be stuffy and lots of standing around for our visitors.

Point is when they arrive with us on Saturday afternoon we really want to make them feel properly welcome in the UK in a way only a chilled, funky Birmingham crowd can do. In return they are going to give us a special selection of their favourite songs and dances from Saturday night back home.

Kent has arranged for them to play under one of the massive arches by the Custard Factory on GibB St. so lots of room to get out of the rain. Please come and welcome them.
We are filming them for a DVD release which will go around the world and we want to show the world that we are not phased by a bit of water - we are British, it’s what we do!

Before they hit the stage we have tremendous entertainment from Steve Gibbons, Chrissy van Dyke, Soweto Kinch, The Birmingham Community Gospel Choir, many other fine folk AND IT’S ALL FREE!

We will also have a few words from the remarkable Heather Reynolds who set up God’s Golden Acre and bizarrely I’ve just heard that Hello Magazine have made an offer for exclusive pictures of the tour so maybe we’ll all be in Hello so put your best mac on!

Now for Sunday another cunning plan - get out of the rain by going underground. Have a look here, it looks fab:

Cool eh!
So see you under the arches and down the tunnels.
Please pass this on,
Best to All,
John

Bring your friends, come and meet a load of new ones who can’t wait to meet you too, no computer skills necessary, it’s gonna be a big one…..

Stop Press!! The organisers of the Rootsville Festival are delighted to announce that the internationally acclaimed Young Zulu Warriors will be special guests of the Festival in Birmingham on June 30th 2007, performing for free in the afternoon before officially opening the evening’s entertainment at 7.30pm.
young zulu warriors
The Young Zulu Warriors are a remarkable group of 18 boys and 10 girls, all teenagers, from Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa, who have been raised by God’s Golden Acre, a charity that cares for orphaned children and young people abandoned as a result of HIV/AIDS and violence.

Following last year’s sensational sell-out tour of Europe, the young Zulu performers are returning to the UK for the first time in five years to present Thula Siswe, an AIDS-themed musical written by GGA founder Heather Reynolds.

Jude Law will launch the month-long tour at a special reception at South Africa House on Friday June 29.

The following day, the 28 strong cast will make an exclusive appearance at the Rootsville Festival, thrilling audiences with breathtaking Zulu tribal dancing, thundering drumming and blood-stirring songs drawn from their celebrated Saturday night concerts in Natal, all performed in full traditional regalia.

Young Zulu Warriors will perform free around 5pm. Then again to launch the paid for entertainment

Other artists taking part include Inspiral Carpets, Soweto Kinch, Osibisa, The Ripps, Kubichek

Midday-6pm Free, families welcome. 6pm-6am £20 (first 500 tickets £15)

Ah well, after a week of anxiety, troubling whether to cancel the event or not, we decided not to bottle it and progress as planned. Certainly the ambition was there, and there were extremely excellent and heroic performances from artists, crew and organisers alike - in the most testing of adverse conditions. Unfortunately the manifest effect of the weather was to ensure delayed performance times etc - frustrating for performers and audience alike. To anyone who attended or performed organised or supported, we are really grateful for your support and can only apologise if the rain undermined your enjoyment or perspective. Please let us know your thoughts. cheers Kent - Rootsville Festival organiser

ps Please send us any pictures, comments or reviews that you find about the festival. Next year’s Festival planning will be starting again soon……..
